Winston Churchill !

Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill (1874-1965) described himself as "an English-Speaking Union," being the son of Lord Randolph Churchill and the American heiress Jennie Jerome. He was educated at Harrow and the Royal Military College at Sandhurst, and was sent to India with a cavalry commission in 1895. He won early fame as a war correspondent, covering the Cuban revolt against Spain (1895), and British campaigns in the Northwest Frontier of India (1897), the Sudan (1898) and South Africa during the Boer War (1899). Churchill had authored five books by the age of 26. His daring escape from a Boer prison camp in 1899 made him a national hero and ushered him into the House of Commons, where his career spanned 60 years.

Winston Churchill became a Conservative Member of Parliament in 1900, when world war 2 broke out he he was appointed First Lord of the Admiralty which he had earlier held from 1911 to 1915. In May, 1940, he became Prime Minister and Minister of Defence and remained in office until 1945. He took over the premiership again in the Conservative victory of 1951 and resigned in 1955.

Churchill was one of the leaders during the World War 2. He was a brilliant milltary strategist who thought it was ok to use spies, deception and dirty tricks to defeat the Germans. For example he tricked the Germans into beleiving they were going to invade Sadinya and Greece when they invaded Sicily, then he used a dummy army to cover one part of England to make the Germans belive that they were going to invade from the shortest way across(trew kalay) instead they invaded further north in Normandy. He also served in the Western front in World War . His exceptional skills at speech making rallied the British people in some of there darkest hours.
You can hear his most famous speeches here, with the most famous part at about 8 minutes.:

You can read the important parts now:
4 June 1940
"I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.
At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty's Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.
The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.
Even though large tracts of Europe and many old and famous States have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Gestapo and all the odious apparatus of Nazi rule, we shall not flag or fail.
We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old."

Winston was known for his leadership as a politician during WW2, he was a British prime minister served from 1940 to 1945. Winston served as President of the board of trade, home secretary and also, First Lord of the Admiralty as part of asquith liberal government. He lost his Political power from his views on free trade. This was really quite sad, because he had led the country to victory, only to lose it a few years later when the world was at peace.

Winston Churchill was born to rule. his father, uncles, grandfather all had been politcians this means the churchill name gave him power in him self. in addition he was very clever and witty and a great speaker, these characteristics all gave him the confidence to perform well in public life.
Here's another of his speeches. It's only two minutes long - but you can still hear the power in his voice.
